Brisbane Part 2 - Lakeside Raceway - Dayboro - Mt. Mee

Today was a drive to the country but we had a pitstop in Lakeside Raceway or Lakeside Park. Formerly known as Lakeside International Raceway it is a motor racing circuit located at Pine Rivers 30 kms north of Brisbane and lies adjacent to Lake Kurwongbah. The circuit is known as the spiritual home of Queensland motorsport. The 2.41 km circuit opened in 1961 and was closed in mid 2001 but re-opened on 5 April 2008.

We were lucky to see cars using the track for a test day.

A Corvette and Ferrari being tested down the main straight.

Next stop is a small town called Dayboro. It is a town in the Moreton Bay Region, approximately 46 km north-northwest of Brisbane. It was a nice small town as was the cafe where we had our lunch. Some of these small hinterland towns serve exceptional food and we where not disappointed with the Dayboro Cafe.

To the north of Dayboro lies the D'Aguilar Range and the mountain township of Mount Mee. The land surrounding the town supports avocado and pineapple plantations, as well as dairy cattle. The scenic countryside is a spectacular destination for motoring enthusiasts, with hilly backroads through rolling paddocks and forest.

Sunshine Coast is also visible from the lookout.
