Cape Byron is the eastern most point of Australia. It is located northeast of the town of Byron Bay and projects into the Pacific Ocean. The cape was named by British explorer Captain James Cook. 166 kms south of Brisbane, Byron Bay was our first destination in NSW. We drove 125 kms from where we camped at Canungra with a quick stop in Tweeds Heads to refuel.
Byron Bay has several beaches which are popular for surfing. It is sort of a resort town popular with both domestic and foreign tourists. The scenery is picture-perfect and we saw a lot of paragliders hovering above the beach. The view is just spectacular with the beach running miles and miles. There is an oceanway that runs from the centre of town to the Cape Byron lighthouse which is a must-see.
